Sheila Herrera is a native Texan. She now lives in South Florida with her husband, but frequently visits Texas. As a young Mexican-American girl, Sheila struggled with her ethnic identity. She did not grow up speaking Spanish and often felt lost between two cultures. Her love of family and her inquisitive nature, helped Sheila discover and embrace her heritage.

A graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, Sheila majored in Special Education. She taught her students with disabilities more than academics — always Dream Big. She also instilled in her students a love of reading and writing. Sheila dedicated much of her career to children’s literacy. When she isn’t coming up with new story ideas, Sheila is reading, writing picture books, and honing her craft as a children’s book writer.
